Ashwarya Abhishek Engagement - Finally Aishwarya Rai is engaged with Abhishek Bacchan

Mumbai/ January 15, 2007 – At last speculation of the media came to an end, Ashwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan got engaged in Mumbai on 14th January 2007.

The ‘Roka rituals’ took place at the residence of the Bachchan’s in the evening, soon after the return of the couple from the premiere of their film Guru in Canada and America.

The ceremony was attended by the family members of Ashwarya and Abhishek, close family friend of Bachchan’s Amar Singh was also present. The first confirmation came from Amitabh Bachchan himself.

Speaking on this occasion the media manager of Aishwarya said “The news is confirmed. Abhishek and Ashwarya have got engaged”. He refused to provide any further details.

Date of the marriage is still not available, but the speculations are on for an early marriage sometime in the February 2007. It is believed that only very close relatives and friends would be invited for the long awaited marriage.

As the news got public, all the popular stalwarts of the film industry started to drop in to the residence to congratulate the couple. People who reached to the residence of Amitabh Bachchan included film personalities Karan Johar and Kiron Kher beside the famous industrialist Anil Ambani, who was accompanied by his wife Tina.

The couple along with Amitabh, Amar Singh and Amitabh’s daughter Sweta Nanda has gone to the holy city of Ujjain to take a dip and offer prayers at the temples.

Aishwarya Rai was linked to actors Salman Khan and Vivek Obroi in the past but in the recent past, grapevine was thick about her tying the knot with Abhishek soon. This gained momentum after the confirmation of Abhishek’s uncle Ajitabh Bachchan’s confirmation of his visit to Bangalore based astrologer for the matching of the horoscopes of the couple and the astrologer Chandrasekhar Swami confirming the fact also. It became hotter as the news spread in the media regarding the visit of Ashwarya to the Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi on November 26-27, 2006 along with the Bachchan’s. Soon both the families were spotted visiting various temples.

Slowly the story of the romance of Ashwarya and Abhishek died down, but the couple was occasionally spotted in different places. Ashwarya and Abhishek never confirmed their closeness publicly; they always maintained the line “When any development would take place you would get the information”.
